Porlezza

The town of Porlezza is within walking distance from the chalet. Through the shore of Lake Lugano is a beautiful hiking trail. The location is on the lake and it is in a beautiful mountain area with many hiking and biking trails. On the promenade are several bars and restaurants. Every Saturday there is a nice market.

Lugano and mountain Monte Brè

You can store in Lugano, there are pleasant streets and squares that lead to the long boulevard. The city lies against the mountains so you can climb, or take a train to the top. The view of the lake is beautiful. With the little cable car you can go to the top of the mountain Monte Brè and enjoy a beautiful view over Lugano.

Balcony of Italy

Mount Sighignola, located at an altitude of 1,320 meters, is also called the Balcony of Italy (Balcone d’Italia). It lies on the border between Italy and Switzerland. From here the views of Lugano and the lake are magnificent. It is about a 45-minute drive from Porlezza.

Morcote

Less than half an hour’s drive from Porlezza is Morcote, an enchanting village on Lake Lugano. Narrow alleys, arcades and flower terraces make this old fishing village a gem. Morcote was voted the most beautiful village in Switzerland.

Climb to the beautiful Santa Maria del Sasso church for breathtaking views, or seek altitude at the famous Panoramic Swing: a huge swing with an insane view of the lake and mountains.

Don’t forget the Parco Scherrer – an exotic garden full of statues, palms and serene corners.

Take a scenic drive along Lake Como and visit Como. Every Saturday there is a large market with where you can enjoy strolling along stalls selling clothes, bags, shoes and local products. You can take a little train up the mountain to a picturesque village of Brunate. On top of the mountain are restaurants and you can enjoy the beautiful view.

Villa Carlotta

Villa Carlotta is a beautiful 17th-century villa in the village of Tremezzo, right on the shores of Lake Como. The villa is known for its beautiful botanical gardens, classical art collection and elegant fountains.

Melide Swissminiature

Opened in 1959, Swissminiatur in Melide is Switzerland’s only miniature park. Among the precisely recreated models are such well-known structures as the Heidi village in Maienfeld, Burgdorf and Chillon castles, the Bundeshaus in Bern and Milan Cathedral.

Milan

A city with a beautiful cathedral “Milan Cathedral” (in Italian Duomo di Milano) and Cathedral Square. (Piazza di Duomo). The city is a must visit.

For soccer fans, of course, it is fun to go check out the imposing San Siro Stadium where AC Milan plays its home games.

The Begna waterfall

Less than a 10-minute drive from Porlezza you will find the Begna waterfall, a hidden gem in the middle of greenery. Park your car in Begna (frazione of Grandola ed Uniti), near the church, and follow the path toward the waterfall – about a 10- to 15-minute walk.

Along the way you can already hear the murmur: clear mountain water flowing down between the rocks. Perfect for a short walk, a picnic or to just paddle on a hot day.

A fresh, quiet break in the middle of nature

Gotthard Pass

Traffic jam at the Gotthard Tunnel on your way to Italy? Then take the old route over the Gotthard Pass!

Instead of standing still for the tunnel, drive along a spectacular mountain road full of hairpin turns and panoramic views. Take the Wassen exit toward Gotthard Pass.

At the top of the pass (2,091 meters) you can pause for a hot bratwurst, Swiss snack or cup of coffee. There is a kiosk with souvenirs. It’s the perfect place for a well-deserved break in the fresh mountain air.

The pass is usually open from June to October, depending on the weather. A wonderful detour that will make your drive toward Porlezza a lot more enjoyable!
